Forum rules

Welcome to the Intellectual Discussion subforum.

This forum is the place for intellectual discussions, such as philosophical or scientific debates. There are some guidelines that apply specifically to posts in this forum, of which you will be expected to have made yourself aware before participating. They are as follows:

  • Intellectually stimulating topics only. If you can't have a deep discussion about something, it does not belong here.
  • If you're going to post, have something to say. When you make a new thread, write the initial post in a way that provides an introduction to the topic and invites further discussion. You could tell us how you feel and why, but always aim for constructive responses that further a discussion about the ideas involved, rather than a simple list of people's views. (Instead of asking "Are you a vegetarian?", discuss some of the arguments involved.) This guideline likewise applies for responses to topics.
  • Write using good English. That means full sentences with proper capitalisation, punctuation, spelling and grammar. No one is perfect, though; this is not an invitation to criticise others for minor mistakes.
  • Be nice. This is a forum for rational discourse, not flame wars. No one is always right. Be respectful of other people's views and accept that we are all entitled to our own.

These guidelines will be enforced by the moderators based on their best judgement, and anyone who does not take them seriously will lose the privilege of posting here. Spammers will be banned from the entire forum.

Libertarian socialist, for those who care to google it.

Nice little introduction

Don't agree with idea about planned economy- but Einstein does a pretty good job of justifying socilaism

Also, yes libertarian socialism is utopian but that doesn't mean steps can't be taken in the pursuit of that system. In terms of changes I'd recommend enacting on modern society: wealth redistribution (preferably through structural changes and not leaving the system untouched while creaming money away from the top), minimising of corporate power (in favour of co-operatives/small businesses), reduction in quantity of work we all do and, probably, a fair bit of state ownership and intervention to help these things happen.

I think this is a bit broken, if we're basing it on the political compass; my authoritarian choices moved me below, but my libertarian ones moved me higher?

EDIT: This is because "agree" is to the left, and "disagree" is to the right. TF sort of system is this

EDIT II: My final results:

Did anyone say anarcho-capitalism? :D

no?

The thing I noticed in everone's result was the fact that either left or right wing, literally everyone is liberal. The reason is obvious of course, nevertheless interesting to observe on different diagrams.

"Libertarian socialist"? I don't really agree with the things it's saying I agreed with, and I think i actively chose some choices to the opposite, but it's interesting I guess

I got LibSoc again.

I feel like a lot of these quizzes miss out on a large part of politics. Although I'm libertarian in a few aspects, I very much like state control and my ultimate goal would never be to eliminate the state. I'm way more for representative-democracy compounded with balance by unelected, highly-informed bodies, and against direct democracy, including referendums - which would put me at odds with a lot of LibSocs. Although I do have to admit I have a lot of beliefs that don't quite mesh together.
I lean a lot towards guild socialism, but also corporatism sometimes, with a nice dollop of neo-ludditism and the odd dash of reationary-ism mixed in. And bits of semi-extreme environmentalism.

Joseph stalin knows
"It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything."

Suppose it isn't quite the same as communism... but it works
Hold me in this wild, wild world
'Cause in your warmth I forget how cold it can be
And in your heat I feel how cold it can get

Very interesting test. Definitely asks some hard-hitting, existential questions about civil liberties and market principles.
